More than a place to live

Community life

The island’s institutions are small enough to know their neighbours and broad enough to carry a surprising amount: education, worship, healthcare, radio, recreation, meals, music, markets, and the work no one sees.

Island education

Amherst Island Public School

The island’s Kindergarten-to-Grade-8 school sits in Stella beside the Community Centre and shared recreation grounds.

Beyond the classroom, the school is woven into island life through family events, fundraising, recreation, and the daily rhythms of a small community. The grounds include open play space and a winter skating rink.
